If you think breakouts are only for teenagers, you may not be fully right. For some of us, the effects are constant with age. Pimples are not necessarily a factor of age and are closely correlated with oily skin texture, hormonal imbalances, stress, lack of sleep and unbalanced diet. The most troubling aspect of treating acne-prone skin is the scars that pimples leave behind.
Regular application of these natural and herbal face packs are a path to pimple and acne free skin. The remedy ingredients are usually the ones which we can easily find in our kitchen.
- Neem Face Pack:
Crush a few neem leaves and apply the juice to the face. You can also take half a teaspoon each of neem and curry leaves powder, add a pinch of turmeric and mix it with rose water to make a thick paste. Apply this mixture on the pimples and all over the face. Let it dry for 15-20 minutes and wash off with cold water.
- Besan and Curd Face Pack:
Mix two teaspoons of besan (chickpea flour) and sufficient curd to make a good paste. You may add a pinch of turmeric and few drops of lemon juice. Apply it the pimples and all over the face and let it dry. When it is completely dry, dampen it and with mild, circular motion, and scrub your skin. Wash off with cold water.
- Honey Cinnamon Face Pack:
Mix equal quantity of cinnamon powder and honey to the pimples and all over the face. Let this stay through the night or for at least 20 minutes. Wash it off with warm water.
- Lemon Face Pack:
Mix equal quantity of lemon juice and rosewater to the pimples and all over the face. You can also add cucumber juice this too, which acts as a cooling agent. Let this stay through the night or for at least 20 minutes. Wash it off with warm water.
- Aloe Vera Face Pack:
Aloe Vera has antimicrobial properties, making it ideal to treat acne and pimples. Take a fresh aloe vera leave and slice it open. Rub the gel on your pimples and all over the face. Let it remain for the night. You can also apply this gel on your face before stepping out in the sun, to protect your skin from the harmful rays of the sun.
- Green Tea or Mint Ice Cube:
Take half a cup of green tea or mint tea and pour it in an ice tray and put in the deep freezer. Once the ice cubs are formed, you can rub it on your pimples and all over the face. Green tea ice will reduce the redness, swelling and inflammation of pimples. It also helps in improving blood circulation to the pimple affected area, and in tightening the skin pores and removing dirt and oil accumulated on the skin.
- Steam:
Steaming is wonderful for the skin types, and particularly when you have pimples and acne. Taking steam will open up the clogged pores and allow the skin to breathe. This helps get rid of dirt, oil, and bacteria which is trapped in the pores that can cause infection or inflammation. Boil water in a large utensil. You can add fresh neem or mint leaves to the water. When the water comes to boil, take it off the gas stove. Use a towel to cover your face and allow the steam to come in contact with your face for at least 5-10 minutes. Rinse your face afterwards with lukewarm water and, pat dry. Apply aloe vera gel on the face which will work like a moisturizer. Do this at least once in 10 days.
- Garlic:
Garlic has antifungal, antiviral, antiseptic and antioxidant properties which can help in the fast treatment of pimples. The sulfur in garlic also promotes quick healing of pimples. Cut a fresh garlic clove into two pieces. Rub the garlic on the pimples and leave it for 10–15 minutes and then wash your face with lukewarm water.

It is best to follow these simple remedies to remove and prevent acne, by keeping the skin clean and also following a proper diet. Before following any of these remedial solutions, it is important to wash the affected area. Do not crush the pimple or burst it out. It will results in scars or spreading of pimples. Remember to follow a balanced diet which includes fresh fruits and vegetables. Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water.
